July 24 - 26 - Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo Longboard Race
|

After a one-year hiatus, WinSport Canada in partnership with the Speed and Longboard Association of Calgary (SLAC) is proud to bring back the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo at Canada Olympic Park July 24th-26th, 2009.
This event is free to the public and features our dynamic, switch-back course known for its smooth ride, sharp turns and ridiculous speed. Six turns, intense straight-aways and the occasional speed bump make the ride down an absolute thrill, but the quick ride back up on our high-speed quad chair is what makes our course one of the finest in the world.
The event in 2007 saw speeds of 84.6 KMPH (52 MPH) in stand-up longboard qualifying and it is expected that that this year longboarders will exceed 90 KMPH (56 MPH)
The previous Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo registered more than 150 racers from around the world and this year’s event is expected to draw more than double that number making the 3rd edition of the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo one of the largest competitions in the history of skateboard gravity sports.
In the past, the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo has attracted racers from five Canadian provinces and one territory (Alberta, BC, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, North West Territories), as well as racers from all over the United States (Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Texas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico), and seven other countries including Germany, Switzerland, England, Norway, Africa, Brazil and New Zealand.
While previous years have required these out of town riders to find off-site accommodations, this year’s event will include camping, late-night bonfires, athlete meals and nightly entertainment sure to thrill.
Details surrounding the Friday night and Saturday night party will be posted here as bands and DJ’s and event sponsors are confirmed.
*Please Note: Clicking on this registration will allow you to view all the details of the event. It will not commit your registration unless you complete it through to the end. Furthermore, once registered, you will have an account with this event that can be adjusted by you at any time until July 22nd, 2009.

Battle of the Bands:
WinSport Canada, in partnership with
X92.9, are excited to announce the “Battle of the Bands” as part of the
2009 Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo. On Saturday, July 25th, a selection of
local punk and rock bands will be showcasing their skills in the
Pilsner Beer Gardens. The party kicks off at 1:00 p.m. as bands battle
for musical supremacy and a shot at the $1,500 grand prize!
WinSport
Canada will be accepting up to seven bands for the battle and are
asking any group that is interested to drop off a demo CD to Canada
Olympic Park no later then July 6th, 2009. All bands that are accepted
will be contacted at that time and given a detailed schedule of events
including their set-up and gig times. Each band should have enough
material to fill a 45-minute set. Stage and sound equipment will be
provided along with a dedicated sound and set-up crew.
Bands
will be judged on talent, style and the ability to draw a crowd. To be
perfectly clear, talent will get you a spot in the competition, but it
will be your ability to rock the crowd that will win you the cash!
Saturday's
Battle of the Bands, as with the rest of the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo,
is free for the public and is guaranteed to rock. Come early, stay late
and enjoy the shows!
To enter your band, email Chad Hason at chad.hason@winsportcanada.ca or phone Chad at (403) 247-5474.
